So you’ve decided to take the plunge and buy a Bible<\/a>. But wait! Before you go out and immerse (or overwhelm) yourself with all the options out there, here are a few questions that you should ask yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n

1. What Translation are You Looking for?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Knowing what translation you’re looking for makes things a little easier. Do some research beforehand and try a translation that you’re familiar with and that is easy to understand. NIV and NLT are usually recommended. Not sure which translation is right for you? Download a free Bible app and read a few translations to help you decide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Where Will You Use the Bible?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A church Bible should be something easy to carry whereas you may have a heavy Bible at home for Bible Study. I bought a huge journaling Bible and then never took it to church because while it was gorgeous, it was waay too heavy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. What Will Your Main Use Be?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Do you need to take notes? Journal and be creative? Or will you just be reading the Bible? There are tons of options out there. Knowing the main purpose of your Bible will help you decide on what to buy- a journaling Bible with lined pages, a journaling Bible with colouring pages and artwork or just a regular reading Bible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Does Font Size Matter to You?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I have really bad eyesight so font size is a concern for me whenever it comes to my Bibles. Large print is a little too large but sometimes the regular print is too tiny. If this is something that you struggle with, get familiar with what font size works for you so you know that this is the font size you should be looking for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. How Much are You Willing to Pay?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Decide on your budget beforehand. Do some research so you know what exactly it is you’re looking for (i.e a study Bible with large print or a journaling Bible with lined pages) and how much your Bible is going to cost. The point of this is to ensure that 1) the prices don’t shock you when you do go out to shop (you’d already have an idea of the budget) and 2) if you see a really good sale, you’d be able to identify it. I found a R1000+ study Bible online for R500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
